Teignbridge Local Plan Consultation – ends 13th March 2023

There is still time to submit comments to Teignbridge District Council, who are consulting on their Local Plan 2020-2040, which includes proposed sites for new housing, wind and solar development etc.

Many of our members have got in touch with us expressing their concerns over the proposals. For example Markhams Farm – a proposed development of 900 houses on arable fields between Alphington and Ide.

The Alphington Village Forum (AVF) organised a drop-in public meeting on Tuesday, 7 March, so that local residents could see the plans proposed for the 900 houses just outside Alphington, in addition to the 2,000 houses they are already building on green fields between Alphington and Exminster, part of the massive South West Exeter development.

AVF reported that at least 100 residents visited the meeting to talk to planning officers from Teignbridge District Council and were shocked at these plans, which will mean large numbers of cars trying to go down Shillingford Road, a steep and narrow hill, and through Alphington village, which is already congested with heavy traffic that is increasing constantly as a result of all the surrounding development. On Shillingford Road alone there will be accesses to two developments that could comprise at least 450 more houses and thus well over 1,000 new residents who may well need to drive to work or take children to the new school a kilometre away. We understand that many people have also attended recent meetings regarding Markhams Village organised by both Ide and Shillingford Parish Councils where Teignbridge District Council planning officers gave presentations.

The Local Plan also includes proposals for hundreds of new houses at Peamore and more at Attwells Farm in Exwick.

Details can be found under Edge of Exeter at
https://www.teignbridge.gov.uk/planning/local-plans-and-policy/live-consultation-teignbridge-local-plan/ and the deadline is noon on 13 March.
